Professional Career
Budnyy returns to the U.S. in 2009 after having spent the last two seasons playing for FC Obolon Kyiv in his native Ukraine. In 2007-08, he led Ukraine’s second division in goals scored (20).
Budnyy began his professional career with the Charlotte Eagles in 2006. In eight appearances, he scored one goal. He also had a stint with the Chivas USA reserves.
College Career
After spending his freshman season at Division III Bard College in New York and his sophomore season San Jose State, Budnyy transferred to NAIA Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, Calif. In two seasons, he scored 42 goals and had 14 assists, placing him eighth all-time on the school’s career scoring list. In 2005, he was a first-team All-American, and he earned Golden State Athletic Conference and Region II player of the year honors.
