Professional: Russell joined the RailHawks midway through the 2010 campaign after an 11-year career in England and Scotland. In 18 appearances last season, Russell had two goals and two assists in 1,035 minutes played. He made his Carolina debut against Rochester on July 27 and had his first assist four days later in a 2-2 tie against Vancouver. He scored his first goal as a RailHawk in a 3-2 defeat to Austin on Aug. 22 and his second in a 3-0 win at Crystal Palace Baltimore on Sept. 3. Prior to coming to the U.S., Russell played in nearly 250 games in the U.K. and scored 55 goals for clubs such as Kilmarnock, Airdrie United and Forest Green Rovers. In 2008, he was named the Scottish Football League Second Division Player of the Year after scoring 19 goals for Airdrie United. |
