FC Edmonton midfielder Hansan Boakai has played both of Canada’s consecutive draws against Austria and Iran to open Group E of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
Boakai, who his professional debut for the North American Soccer League club last Spring as the youngest player at 16 years and 231 days, played the full 90 minutes in the Maple Leafs 1-1 tie against Iran on Tuesday at Dubai’s Rashid Stadium.
Three days earlier at the same Dubai venue, Boakai and midfielder Jose Lopez, who plays on FC Edmonton’s Reserves squad, both saw action the entire match, while Ottawa Fury Academy’s Nevello Yoseke came in off the bench for the final 12 minutes as Canada opened group play with a 2-2 draw against Austria.
The Maple Leafs, who's taking part in their sixth FIFA U-17 World Cup, concludes Group E action on Friday in Dubai when they face Argentina.
The 24-team FIFA U-17 tournament runs from October 17 – November 8.
