The Carolina RailHawks have added reinforcements to their attacking and defensive corps with the signings of Costa Rican midfielder, Cesar Elizondo, and Scottish defender, Kevin Rutkiewicz, pending USSF approval and ITC receipt. The 25-year old Elizondo formerly played for Costa Rican power, Deportivo Saprissa, and made 10 appearances for the Costa Rican Men’s National Team. Rutkiewicz is a 14-year veteran of Scottish professional soccer, spending most of his playing career with St. Johnstone FC of the Scottish Premier League and most recently Greenock Morton of the Scottish First Division.
“Cesar and Kevin will be great additions to the squad and give us attacking and defending options going into a very important part of the season,” said RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke. “Kevin is an experienced defender who has played at a high level in Scotland and will compete for a spot on the back line. Cesar is a talented midfielder I have followed for a few years and brings experience competing at the international level.”
The roster additions come prior to the close of the FIFA International Transfer Window for U.S. Soccer at 11:59p.m.on May 6,adding depth and talent leading into an important part of the RailHawks season. With the winner of the NASL Spring Season earning the right to host the NASL Soccer Bowl in November, the RailHawks will look to continue their form and remain atop the NASL Standings. The month of May also means the incorporation of the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup into the RailHawks schedule, with the knockout style cup tournament playing matches during the week.
The RailHawks return to action on May 11th when they host the San Antonio Scorpions at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7:00p.m. Tickets for the match can be purchased by visiting www.CarolinaRailHawks.com or by calling the St. Lawrence Homes Box Office at 919-459-8144.
