RailHawks and Soccer weekly news

2012 was a record-breaking year for the RailHawks with three games exceeding 7,000 fans in attendance. However, 2013 is already looking like it will set even more records as 2013 RailHawks Season Ticket sales have already exceeded the total for the 2012 season.

Be a part of the RailHawks in 2013 and get your season tickets now by calling the Cruizers Box Office at (919) 459-8144 or by going to the RailHawks website.

Not only are fans jumping on board to support the RailHawks, the team also just announced an expanded Youth Soccer Club Partnership with the Capital Area Soccer League. As part of the deal, the three central sections of the newly constructed terrace above the east stands (section 502, 503 and 504) will be named the “CASL Tower.”

The RailHawks have also extended an invitation to be a part of the 2013 team by announcing an Open Tryout for next season. On December 8th and 9th, Players can showcase their skill and potentially be invited to the Spring 2013 preseason camp by impressing RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke and other members of the coaching staff and management.

The 2012 NASL Season is coming to a close and this Saturday will be the final game of the year.  The second leg of the 2012 NASL Championship Series will kick off at 7:30 at Al Lang Stadium in St. Petersburg, FL.

Last Saturday, the Minnesota Stars took the upper hand with a 2-0 win at home in the first leg of the Championship Series (highlights here). The Stars are looking to a cap off their run with the as the 2012 NASL Champions after coming into playoffs as the lowest-seeded team (post-match comments here).

The Stars have the two-goal advantage heading into Tampa Bay behind a goal each from Amani Walker and Martin Nunez. The game was a battle of the goalkeepers as Rowdies’ Jeff Attinella and Stars’ Matt VanOekel both came up big for their teams multiple times.

The Rowdies return to Florida down in the aggregate goal count, but are more than capable of making up the difference at home. Don’t miss out on the final game of the 2012 NASL season, fans can watch live directly at www.facebook.com/NASLfans.

The first leg of the Championship Series was covered in the NASL Weekly Rewind, MLS Reserves and Soccer By Ives.

Rumors of the 2016 Copa America have filled the internet.  On Wednesday, COMNEBOL first announced it will hold a special Copa America tournament in 2016 in the United States to commemorate the organization's 100th year.

However, on Thursday CONCACAF and U.S. Soccer down played the announcement saying talks of bringing the tournament to the United States were still ongoing. "This is an idea we are hoping to materialize but we are still evaluating and discussing before it becomes official but the intention is definitely there."

Lastly, the MLS regular season will be coming to a close with the top story being Chris Wondolowski’s chase of Roy Lassiter’s MLS record of 27 goals scored in a season.  Lassiter, a Raleigh native and NC State standout, first set the record in 1996 during the Inaugural MLS Season.
