Burse Added to Roster

Goalkeeper joins Colin Clarke in move from Islanders to RailHawks

The Carolina RailHawks have added another goalkeeper for the 2012 season with the signing of Ray Burse, a Major League Soccer veteran who spent 2011 with league rivals, Puerto Rico Islanders.  After a standout career at Ohio State University, Burse was selected 30th overall in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft by current RailHawks head coach Colin Clarke, then head coach of FC Dallas.

Burse joined the Islanders in 2011 and quickly established himself as one of the league’s top goalkeepers.  While leading the Islanders to a second place finish and playoff berth, Burse registered 103 saves in 2,520 minutes played.  After four seasons with FC Dallas, Burse joined the Columbus Crew for the 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions League.  Burse earned “Man of the Match” honors for a shutout against Real Salt Lake in the Champions League quarterfinal series.

“I have been fortunate to work with Ray previously and glad we are able to have him in Carolina,” said Clarke.  “We have a good group of keepers in Ray, Akira [Fitzgerald], and Nic [Platter].  Between league play, US Open Cup, and playoffs, depth at the position is important.”

Fans can watch Burse and the rest of the RailHawks as they continue through their preseason schedule in preparation for the NASL home opener on April 14th.  The RailHawks take on the Atlanta Silverbacks at 7pm at WakeMed Soccer Park.  Season tickets and individual tickets are on sale and available at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com.  For more information on RailHawks tickets and game details call the Cruizers box office at (919) 459-8144 or e-mail tickets@carolinarailhawks.com.
