Costa Rican Defender signs with RailHawks

Scott brings physicality and versatility to roster

The Carolina RailHawks have announced the signing of Costa Rican defender James Scott Guevara. The versatile player, who has played as a defender and a midfielder in the Costa Rican first division, comes to the RailHawks following a successful trial at the end of 2011.

James Scott comes to the RailHawks following a season at Orion FC in the Costa Rican First Division. During the 2011-2012 season he played in 23 matches, starting all of them. Scott was among the top 5 players in Orion in total minutes played in the season.

“James is a leader on the field with versatility, able to play in the defense or the middle of the pitch. We will look for him to play a key role in our back line,” said Head Coach Colin Clarke. “He has great vision and is able to disrupt attacks quickly, creating opportunities for counter attacks.”

This season at WakeMed Soccer Park will represent his first international experience, outside of his native Costa Rica. He has spent his entire professional career playing in Costa Rica’s first division. The 25-year-old player has had some experience with the youth national teams.

“I am very excited to get the opportunity to come to the RailHawks. Getting to play for a renowned coach and at such a nice facility, I couldn’t ask for anything more,” said James Scott. “I want to start preseason and play a big part in this season.”

James Scott and the 2012 RailHawks will make their debut on Sunday, March 4 at 3:00 pm against Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 4th Annual Hilton Garden Inn Durham Southpoint Community Shield Match. Fans may purchase tickets for the match through the Community Shield Pack and Season Tickets are still available.
