Founder members of the Football League, the precursor to the English Premier League, Burnley Football Club began life as a Rugby Club. However, Burnley Rovers soon switched codes and became Burnley Football Club in 1882. They moved to their Turf Moor home, in Lancashire, England, shortly afterwards, at the invitation of the town's cricket club, which is still situated next to the stadium.

Cary, NC (Thursday, July 3rd, 2008) – The Carolina
RailHawks tied the Seattle Sounders 2-2 on Thursday night in the second match
of the RailHawks Independence day doubleheader. RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer
promised fireworks on and off the field and the match was full of excitement.
RailHawks forward Jacob Coggins scored early in the first half to put the
RailHawks up 1-0 in the 12th minute. The Sounders tied it up with
Sebastien Le Toux in the 45th minute sending the teams to the locker
room tied 1-1. In the second half Kenji Treschuk of the Sounders scored in the 69th
minute to put Seattle on top 2-1. A corner in the 87th minute
allowed RailHawks Defender David Stokes to put one past Sounders goalkeeper
Chris Eylander to fix the result at 2-2.
The end of the match was full of sparks as the RailHawks continued
to search for a game winner with Connally Edozien and Dan Antoniuk both having
serious opportunities thwarted by the Sounders’ defense in the 90th
minute.
“Both teams played a great game tonight,” said RailHawks Head
Coach Scott Schweitzer. “It was great
for our fans to see the exciting brand of soccer we played. Now we have to show
them we can finish as we had at least two opportunities late in the game. The
only team that can beat us right now is ourselves and we will work on that.”
Next the RailHawks Men embark on a road trip that will take them
to Minnesota on July 11th and Vancouver on July 13th. All
Carolina RailHawks matches can be seen on www.USLLive.com. On July 10th
the Cary RailHawks U-23 PDL team will host England’s Second Division mainstay
Burnley FC in an exhibition at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7:30 PM. The Carolina
RailHawks Women return to W-League action the following Saturday, July 12th
as they host the Tampa Bay Hellenic. Tickets for all these events are available
