The Carolina RailHawks have acquired midfielder Luke Sassano from Major League Soccer on a loan for the remainder of the NASL Season. Sassano, 26, spent the last two years of his career with Sporting Kansas City after being drafted by New York Red Bulls in 2008.
Sassano appeared in a total of 38 matches for the Red Bulls before being traded to Kansas City. He had a successful season in 2011, playing in nine MLS and four Open Cup matches. Sassano also appeared in Kansas City’s 3-0 win against New England Revolution on March 17th before sustaining an injury.
Sassano has experience in the midfield as well as on the back line, and his addition will further deepen the RailHawks roster as the team approaches NASL playoffs. The RailHawks currently sit in fifth place with 34 points and a game in hand. The RailHawks are currently on a three match road trip where they will visit Edmonton, San Antonio and Tampa Bay before closing out the regular season against Tamp Bay Rowdies on September 22nd at WakeMed Soccer Park.
