With five games to go, the RailHawks are sitting in fourth place looking to secure their spot in the NASL Playoffs and ascend up the table. With a game in hand, the RailHawks go into the final three weeks of the NASL regular season with a tough remaining schedule. Over their final five games, the RailHawks will take on first-place San Antonio twice (home and away), second-place Tampa Bay twice (home and away), and FC Edmonton (away).
Although tough games lie ahead, the RailHawks can move up the NASL standings quickly with victories against the teams ahead of them. Each match presents a potential 6-point swing where the RailHawks can gain three points on the league leaders or fall three points further behind.
With a win Saturday night against San Antonio, the RailHawks would not only clinch a playoff berth, but could also move into third place and be only six points shy of first. The RailHawks will also clinch a playoff spot with a tie against San Antonio, or an Edmonton and Atlanta tie or loss.
The NASL Playoff will kickoff on Saturday, September 29th with the top six teams in the league. Teams seeded 3rd through 6th will compete in the Quarterfinal round, while the 1st and 2nd place teams will receive a bye into the Semifinals. The Quarterfinal round will consist of one game hosted by the higher seed. The Semifinal and Final rounds will each be a two-game series with the winner advancing on aggregate goals (combined goals over the two games). A series tied on aggregate goals will proceed to 2 15-minute overtime periods and then penalty kicks, if necessary.
