The Carolina RailHawks (6W-7T-7L, 25 pts.) lost 1-0 to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers (8W-6T-8W, 30 pts.) in Florida. The Strikers scored the only game of the match in the second half when Andy Herron took a shot from the top of the box beating out a diving Ray Burse to find the back of the net.
The RailHawks began the match on the offensive but were soon defending the Strikers counterattacks led by their midfielders Walter Restrepo and Mark Anderson. Goalkeeper Burse made three impressive saves in the first half to keep the score 0-0. Offensively, Austin Da Luz tried to take advantage of the speed of Brian Shriver, Nick Zimmerman, and Zack Schilawski throughout the first half.
In the second half, the Strikers pushed forward and continued to put pressure on Burse’s goal. It was in the 64th minute that Herron managed to beat Burse for the first time as his shot from the top of the box to the far post found the back of the net. Both teams then exchanged opportunities but both goalkeepers prevented any further goals.
On Saturday, August 18th, the RailHawks will host FC Edmonton at 7:00PM at WakeMed Soccer Park. Tickets for the match can be purchased online at www.CarolinaRailHawks.com.
