Brian Shriver became the golden boot winner of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup tournament on Wednesday night after the final between Sporting Kansas City and the Seattle Sounders. Sporting KC lifted the trophy following a penalty kick shootout, winning their second U.S. Open Cup. Their first U.S. Open Cup was won during RailHawks President Curt Johnson’s tenure as GM of the Kansas City Wizards.
Brian Shriver scored 5 goals in the competition to lead all players. This is the first time a RailHawks player has been the top goal scorer in the U.S. Open Cup. In 2007, Connally Edozien finished second, scoring 4 goals. Shriver scored his fifth in the match against the reigning MLS Champions, LA Galaxy. He scored the game winner in the 88th minute as the RailHawks upset the MLS side 2-1.
