The Carolina RailHawks U-23’s were honored at halftime of the RailHawks’ match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers Saturday night at WakeMed Soccer Park. The U-23’s won their second consecutive Region III U23 Men’s National Cup Championship in Murfreesboro, Tennesee from June 22-24. The team will travel to Chicago to defend its title at this years U23 Men’s National Cup from July 20-22. The tournament will be played at the Chicago Fire’s Toyota Park.
Led by Head Coach Dewan Bader, the U-23’s, consisting mostly of area college soccer players, won the Region III U23 National Cup tournament in dominating fashion. The team won all four games with a +24 goal differential without conceding a goal.
The team has competed against top competition including its own senior team and MLS teams’ U-23’s. A trip to the nation’s capital saw the U-23’s defeat the DC United U-23’s 3-1 on June 30. The RailHawks U-23’s have continued their success, winning every game this summer except for two losses against their senior counterparts.
The U-23’s continued success is underlined by its emphasis on player development. It gives college players the opportunity to experience a professional atmosphere and compete at a high level during the summer while also giving the RailHawks coaching staff and opportunity to scout the area’s top college talent.
