The Carolina RailHawks will meet Minnesota in the NASL Semifinals after the Stars’ 1-0 win Saturday over Tampa Bay.
The RailHawks will travel to Blaine, Minn., for the first leg on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. They’ll play the return leg on Saturday, Oct. 15 at WakeMed Soccer Park at 7 p.m.
This is the second straight season these two teams have met in the playoffs. In 2010, the RailHawks won their quarterfinal series 4-0 on aggregate. After a scoreless draw at the National Sports Center, the RailHawks scored four goals in the second half of the return leg to claim their first playoff win in franchise history.
In 2011, the RailHawks went 0-2-2 in four match against the Stars, the only team the RailHawks did not defeat on their way to the NASL Regular Season Championship. In the regular-season finale on Sept. 24, the Stars earned a 2-1 win over the RailHawks to clinch the sixth and final berth in the NASL playoffs.
In the other semifinal, No. 2 Puerto Rico will square off against No. 4 Ft. Lauderdale, which defeated Edmonton 5-0 in their quarterfinal match Saturday at Lockhart Stadium. Puerto Rico will host the first leg on Saturday Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m., and they’ll play the second leg in Ft. Lauderdale on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
